At the risk of going off-topic, if you are talking about Apache web server, look into mod_python (latest version needs Apache2) either alone or with spyce, or else FastCGI (also possibly with spyce). What you want to avoid (and why you want to avoid simple CGI) is loading the python interpreter and your program every time a user requests a page. You can get away with this on low volume sites but if you ramp up, overall responsiveness tanks. This is based on my experience....
